Nigeria, once considered the giant of Africa, is now teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and poverty, all thanks to the actions of its elite political class. These so-called leaders have systematically looted the country’s resources, mismanaged its economy, and fostered a culture of corruption that has left the majority of its citizens struggling to make ends meet.

By Abdul-Azeez Suleiman

While inflation and supply chain issues are affecting countries worldwide, Nigeria’s economic woes are exacerbated by the actions of its elite. Despite the country’s potential for growth and development, the elite’s mismanagement and corruption have led to the squandering of Nigeria’s wealth and resources, leading it to bankruptcy. The elite have continued to pass the burden of debt onto future generations, without implementing policies to address the root causes of the country’s economic struggles.

The blame for Nigeria’s current economic crisis lies squarely on the shoulders of the country’s elite. Despite their attempts to shift responsibility onto international lenders and external factors, it is clear that the failures in leadership and the dishonest practices of the political class are the primary causes of Nigeria’s current struggles.

The Nigerian people are kept in the dark about the true implications of the country’s mounting debt and increasing taxes. The elite have failed to communicate with the public about the long-term consequences of their economic policies, leading to increased hardship and poverty for the average Nigerian citizen. Without access to information and resources, the people are left vulnerable to the whims of the elite, who continue to prioritize their own interests over the well-being of the country.

While the elite engage in power struggles and political games, the average Nigerian is left to bear the burden of their incompetence. Taxes are raised to astronomical levels, services are cut, and the cost of living continues to rise, all while the political class lives in opulence and luxury, untouched by the hardships faced by the common man.

The democratic process in Nigeria has been hijacked by the elite, who treat the citizens as mere pawns to be manipulated for their own gain. The needs and welfare of the people are ignored, as the elite focus on securing their own power and wealth. The gap between the ruling class and the ordinary citizens has never been wider, and the consequences of this disconnect are being borne by the poorest and most vulnerable members of Nigerian society.

The elite may continue to play their games of power and manipulation, but the people of Nigeria are waking up to the harsh reality of their situation. It is high time for the country’s leaders to put the interests of the people first, to act with integrity and honesty, and to work towards building a more equitable and prosperous future for all Nigerians. Only then can Nigeria truly fulfill its potential as the giant of Africa once again.

The lack of accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s political system has allowed the elite to exploit the country’s resources and wealth for their own gain. Instead of prioritizing the needs and welfare of the public, the elite are focused on increasing their own power and influence. The democratic process in Nigeria has been hijacked by the elite, who view the voters as mere pawns in their political games.

In such dire circumstances, it is not surprising that some Nigerians may feel desperate enough to resort to violence and crime as a means of survival. The actions of the elite have driven millions of Nigerians to the brink of desperation, with few options left for improving their livelihoods and securing a better future for themselves and their families.

It is imperative that the Nigerian elite recognize the consequences of their actions and prioritize the needs of the country’s citizens over their own self-interests. Without significant changes in leadership and governance, Nigeria will continue to slide towards bankruptcy and poverty, leaving millions of its people in despair.
