The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, has announced he will not contest the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027, despite sustained calls from supporters.
In a 10-minute video message delivered in Hausa and widely circulated on social media, Pate said the decision followed extensive consultations and careful reflection.
He cited his ongoing national assignment as the primary reason for stepping aside, noting that he still has significant contributions to make to Nigeria’s development at the federal level, as well as to the advancement of Northern Nigeria.
“It is unlikely that I will run for governorship in 2027, and I assure you that you will not regret the love and support you have shown me throughout this period,” Pate said.
Although withdrawing from the race, Pate affirmed his commitment to the political process in Bauchi State, pledging to support the emergence of credible candidates and work towards his party’s success.
“There are many aspirants seeking various elective positions in Bauchi State. The time will come when I will support credible and capable candidates who have the interest of the people at heart, not self-centred leaders. We will identify the best candidates during the primaries,” he added.
He also urged aspirants to remain patient and rally behind those who emerge from the primaries, stressing that personal ambition should give way to collective interest.
Pate further pledged to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State across all levels.
He expressed appreciation to his supporters and promised to intensify efforts toward delivering impactful development initiatives.
Pate has previously contested for the Bauchi governorship three times but failed to secure his party’s ticket at the primaries.
