Nigerian universities students will remain at home for additional three months following the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU’s) extension of its strike. The National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed this after the body’s emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which ended in the early hours of Monday in Abuja. The union had embarked on a one-month strike on February 14 over the failure of the Nigerian government to honour the various agreements reached with them in 2019. The Cross River Police Command have arrested a 70-year-old man, Bassey Inyang on allegations of sexually assaulting a 12-old-girl in Calabar. Inyang was alleged to have assaulted the minor in his apartment at 14 Waddell Street, Mbukpa community in Calabar South local council of the state. A source told The Guardian that the suspect was arrested at the weekend in his house by the Anti-Cult and Kidnapping Squad of the command following an alarm raised by the girl’s parents. The International Gas Union (IGU), has suspended Russia’s Gazprom and Novatek from any involvement in its activities. The relevant statement was made by Interfax, referring to the representatives of the World Gas Congress (WGC), an Ukrinform correspondent reports. Arik Air and Aero Contractors have pulled out of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON’s)planned shutdown of flight operations from Monday. The association on Friday, announced that it’s members would suspend flight operations from Monday, May 9, 2022. Earlier on Sunday, Dana Air and Ibom Airlines announced their pull out from the plan. Ibom Airlines says it will not join the planned shutdown of flights announced by the Airlines Operators of Nigeria (AON). The AON had on Friday said its members would suspend flight services on Monday due to the unbearable high cost of aviation fuel (JetA1) and other associated costs. DANA Air has recanted its decision to join the Airline Operators’ of Nigeria (AON) to commence an indefinite cessation of operations from May 9, 2022. The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) on Sunday insisted that they would go ahead with withdrawal of flights services on Monday over astronomical rise in aviation fuel. Dr Yunusa Abdulmunaf, President of the association, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Lagos. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has appealed to domestic airline operators to shelve their proposed service shutdown, considering the effect on passengers, difficulties and hardship associated with the action.
