The Founder, Women Aid Collective (WACOL), Prof. Joy Ezilo, says no fewer than 450 cases of violence against women were reported to the organisation between January and June 2022. Ezilo disclosed this on Thursday in Enugu while presenting the bi-annual report of the organisation. She said that the cases reported included rape, defilement, incest, domestic violence, child custody, neglect and non-maintenance. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) has begun distribution of inputs and farm implements under its special intervention to support smallholder farmers in Edo. Thirty percent of the inputs would be distributed to women famers to increase opportunities for them, while 10 per cent targeted at persons with special needs. The Police Command in Delta has apprehended 25 suspected cultists in the state and recovered some items from them. The German government, World Food Programme (WFP) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have inaugurated a 40-million-euro resilience and essential services support for Northeast. The information is in a joint statement issued by WFP and UNICEF on Thursday in Abuja. An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Thursday sentenced the embattled Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, alias Baba Ijesha, to five years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. Delivering judgment, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, held that the prosecution had successfully proven the charge of sexual assault of a minor and indecent treatment of a minor against the convict. An Ikeja Special Offences Court has convicted the embattled Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, alias Baba Ijesha, for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, in a two-hour judgement on Thursday, convicted Baba Ijesha for indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault and attempted sexual assault Taiwo, however, discharged and acquitted him of count one and count six – sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration.
