By Tina George, Minna The Niger State House of Assembly on Thursday, impeached the Majority Leader, Mr Abba Mohammed for alleged negligence of duty. The impeachment, which initially included the Deputy majority leader, Binta Mamman was reversed because she was in isolation, recovering from a coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. According to the lawmakers, the majority leader’s impeachment was because he  absented himself from the house plenary when the report of the 2021 estimates was presented. The motion for the impeachment was moved by the member representing Bida 1, Mr Bako Alfa and seconded by the member representing Wushishi, Mr Mohammed Lokogoma.

Soldiers attached to the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven maintaining peace in Plateau, have killed three notorious armed robbers in the state, Maj.-Gen Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, the Commander of the task force, said. As the second wave of COVID-19 rages, Nigeria’s total of infected persons has risen to 80,922 with the announcement by the Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, of 1,133 new infections on Wednesday.  NCDC made this known via its verified website.  So far, more than 903,800 samples have been tested by the public health agency since the first confirmed case in February.  According to the Centre, the Wednesday figure is one of the highest single-day tally, adding that the new infections were recorded in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Centre for Atmospheric Research (CAR) has established a network of nine air quality censors across the country to measure air quality and create awareness on the need to have a healthy environment. Prof. Babatunde Rabiu, Director of CAR, an activity centre of the National Space Research and Development Agency (CAR-NASRDA), disclosed this in an interview on Wednesday in Abuja.
