Kebbi state has today joined other states created on same date in celebrating 32 years anniversary.
Carved out of the defunct Sokoto State on the 27th of August, 1991, Kebbi has undergone transformation from military era to the current democratic governance.
The administration of the incumbent Comrade governor, Dr. Nasir Idris (the Kauran Gwandu), which took over the reigns of power on 29th May, 2023, is now 90 days, steering the affairs of the state with highly positive impact, and improving the quality of lives of the people.
The state government, under the compassionate leadership of a veteran labour leader, and professional teacher, Comrade, has performed remarkably well, especially on infrastructural development, education, agriculture, and economic development.
In the pursuance of food security, the administration has procured and distributed fertiliser of more than N2 billion for free distribution to farmers, a feat that is unprecedented in the history of Kebbi state.
Furthermore, Governor Idris has awarded contracts to the tune of over N9 billion for the massive rehabilitation of city roads in Birnin Kebbi to accord the deserved status to the city as a state capital.
Also, in his wisdom to improve productivity in the civil service, the Kauran Gwandu has enhanced the welfare of workers, maintained prompt payment of salaries and pensions as well as awarded contract for the completion of the state Secretariat at Gwandangaji, to provide modern office accommodation to staff of the Ministries, Agencies, Commissions and Parastatals to improve productivity in the civil service.
Within this period in power, the Comrade governor has made an impact on the education sector where contract of N2. 4 billion has been awarded for the renovation of schools, construction of new classrooms, provision of teaching and learning materials, including ICT equipment in the quest for quality education.
In addition, the Comrade governor has been highly benevolent to vulnerable youths by disbursing N200 million as economic support to 2,000 youths, both males and females to engage in profitable ventures.
Without gainsaying, the positive impact of the veteran labour leader, to uplift the socioeconomic wellbeing of the people of Kebbi state, has been of colossal potency. The popular remark among the people in all nooks and crannies of the state is that “A NEW SHERIFF HAS COME TO TOWN”.
Kudos to a great achiever, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, as Kebbi State celebrates thirty two years of existence.
