Mr Akin Bashiru, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Pako Ward C1, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, has assured party members of peaceful, free, and fair primary elections.
Bashiru gave the assurance in an interview with reporters on Saturday in Lagos during the ongoing APC House of Representatives primaries at Pako Ward C1.
It was reported that security personnel, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force, were deployed to the venue ahead of the exercise.
Bashiru said party members were united and committed to ensuring a peaceful process.
“Our expectation is that today’s primaries will be peaceful and orderly, and that the candidates adopted by the party will emerge victorious.
“The candidate for the House of Representatives is the incumbent lawmaker, Mr Ganiyu Ayuba, who has been adopted by stakeholders in Alimosho.
“We are here to ensure that the process is conducted in line with the party’s decision.
“It is possible that there may be other aspirants, which is why the primary election is being held.
“We want party members to freely express their choice of candidates,” he said.
Bashiru said the heavy presence of security personnel was to ensure order throughout the exercise.
“You can see that police officers are already on the ground. We know ourselves, and it will be easy to identify anyone who does not belong here.
“It promises to be a safe election for us as a party,” he said.
Also speaking, a party member, Mr Okanlawon, expressed confidence that the exercise would be peaceful.
“Once the election begins, it will be peaceful.
“Our members are law-abiding, and we want the process to go smoothly.
“We are hopeful of a successful outcome from today’s election,” he said.
