Umar Ajiya Isa, popularly known as Ajiyan Sokoto, has formally declared his intention to contest the Sokoto East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the (APC).

The declaration, contained in a statement issued Friday by the Ajiyan Sokoto Coordination Committee in Support of APC, follows what was described as sustained calls from party leaders, political associates, and constituents across the district’s eight local government areas urging him to enter the race.

Ajiya Isa, who became a registered member of the APC in August 2025, said his decision to join the contest was guided by extensive consultations with stakeholders and residents of Sokoto East.

Invoking the principle vox populi, vox Dei—meaning the voice of the people is the voice of God—the aspirant said he was motivated by a longstanding commitment to community service and philanthropy.

According to the statement, his candidacy is aimed at delivering “purposeful and impactful representation” for the people of the district, rather than personal ambition.

The committee emphasized that Ajiya Isa’s entry into the senatorial race is rooted in a desire to advance development in Sokoto East and contribute to national progress through legislative service at the .

He also reaffirmed his loyalty to party leadership, acknowledging their guidance and mentorship as instrumental to his political aspirations.

The statement, signed by retired Permanent Secretary Nasiru Yahaya Isa, who chairs the coordination committee, called on supporters and stakeholders to avoid divisive politics and instead embrace peaceful, issue-based engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.

It urged residents of Sokoto East to work collectively toward unity and development in the district and at large.
