The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has warned against using his name to incite protests or rallies following the House of Assembly primaries.
Obasa issued the warning in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos.
He explained that the warning was necessary due to several protests across the state since the Lagos chapter of the party released a list of candidates allegedly victorious in the primaries.
The speaker condemned attempts to link him to the wave of protests nationwide.
“On Tuesday, June 9, party members from various local governments, including Badagry, Mushin, Amuwo-Odofin, Eti-Osa, Somolu, Ajeromi, and Oshodi, among others, staged a protest at the APC Secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja.
“They accused party leaders of manipulating the primary elections and demanded transparency.
“Subsequently, circulating WhatsApp messages claimed that I devoted N2 billion to organize these protests,” he stated.
Obasa said, “It is foolish, malicious, misleading, and baseless for anyone to suggest that I would mobilize protesters from different local governments to the secretariat.
“I am not a candidate in the disputed election, so why and how would I spend such an amount of money to organize protests?
“I am a peace-loving party member, and I condemn the use of my name and office for any illegal activities or to sow division within the party,” he emphasized.
Obasa reaffirmed his commitment to the unity, peace, and progress of their great party and the people of Lagos State.
