The Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has sealed a dental clinic in Hotoro Quarters, Kano, for operating without approval.
This is contained in a statement issued by PHIMA Public Relations Officer Fauziyya Habib-Mahmud on Monday in Kano.
The agency said the action followed an inspection visit to the private dental clinic, where the team observed inadequate cleanliness and hygiene.
“PHIMA subsequently invited environmental health personnel to train the facility’s staff on proper cleaning practices and safe medical waste disposal.
“The training will cover proper handling and disposal of used gloves, syringes, specimen bottles, drip bags and other healthcare-related materials,” the agency said.
It said the initiative was part of PHIMA’s efforts to ensure that private health facilities maintain hygiene, sanitation and safety standards.
The inspection team also discovered that the clinic was operating without PHIMA consent and at an unapproved location.
“PHIMA reminded private healthcare operators to obtain the necessary approval and consent before establishing or commencing healthcare services,” the statement said.
It further explained that operators may provide services only at approved locations and in line with established regulatory standards.
The agency said it is collaborating with the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) to strengthen sanitation in private health facilities across the state.
The inspection team was led by the Acting Director-General of PHIMA, Khadija Sa’id, alongside the Director of Medical Services, Dr Sulaiman Ibrahim, and Medical Laboratory Scientist Muhammad Kabir Rabiu.
PHIMA urged private health facilities operating in the state to comply with hygiene, sanitation, waste-management and other regulatory requirements to ensure safe and quality healthcare delivery.
