The police on Wednesday in Lagos arraigned a 45-year-old man, Anthony Ogbonna, for allegedly threatening a woman’s life and maliciously damaging her property.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a three-count charge of malicious damage, threat to life and breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 31, about 11.00 p.m. at No. 1, Kukoyi St., Ikoga Road, Mowo, Badagry,.
Okuoimose alleged that the defendant damaged a pedestrian gate worth N55,000, a pumping machine worth N80,000 and a door worth N110,000.
He said that the property belonged to the complainant,Medinat Kareem.
“The defendant threatened to deal with the complainant by all means.
“He also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
“The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 350, 56 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adefioye adjourned the case until April 4 for mention.
