The national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu has commended the efforts of Nigerian authors, especially northern Nigerian writers for their foresight in organising a summit of all indigenous writers across the 19 Northern states.
Ayu represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Yusuf Dingyadi, described writing as an art and skill through which positive issues could be discussed and developed in order to proffer solutions to challenges affecting the society.
According to him, PDP as a party has tremendous respect and recognition of literature and always adore talents for effective way of providing good governance, research and information dissemination for unity.
Ayu said the party is making efforts for the takeoff of its Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) set up to offer research, analytical discussions, data storage and knowledge sharing for good governance and political cohesion among Nigerians.
He has assured of his support and cooperation to Northern writers towards building a formidable Indigenous Literature Society in Nigeria.
The National Chairman said PDP will continue to work together with relevant professional writers and groups in upholding the standards of writing and literature activities to promote national cohesion, confidence, trust and unity among Nigerians.
Speaking earlier at the Summit, the National Chairman of the Northern Nigerian Writers, Dr Abu Sabe said members will continue to appreciate the support of individuals, government and other stakeholders for the development of literature activities in the North.
According to him, the group will support policies and programmes for the success of fight against insecurity in the country.
Dr Sabe said the writers were using their talents through indigenous languages to promote national unity and cohesion in the country.
He said over 150 participants from 19 northern states, including some academicians and representatives from the neighbouring Niger Republic were attending the two-day Summit in Katsina.
The summit was on the use of indigenous literature in addressing the current security challenges in the country.
The writers, who converged on Katsina, also deliberated on the state of indigenous literature, management of writing skills in our indigenous languages.
