The Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) and Head of Transparency International (TI) Nigeria, Auwal Ibrahim Musa Rafsanjani, has been honoured with the Transparency International Amalia Award for Individual Professional Excellence, one of the organisation’s highest distinctions for outstanding contributions to the global fight against corruption.
Rafsanjani received the award on July 1 during the Transparency International Movement Awards Ceremony, held at the close of the TI Summit 2026 in Berlin, Germany. The summit ran from June 29 to July 1 at the Transparency International Secretariat and featured both physical and virtual participation.
Named in honour of the late Amalia Kostanyan, former Chair of Transparency International Armenia, the Amalia Award recognises exceptional contributions by individuals and national chapters across the Transparency International movement. The Individual Professional Excellence category celebrates exemplary leadership, innovation, expertise, and commitment to advancing transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption efforts.
Rafsanjani was recognised for his sustained leadership in promoting transparency, democratic governance, accountability, and anti-corruption reforms in Nigeria and across the African continent.
Under his leadership, CISLAC has strengthened evidence-based policy advocacy, fiscal transparency, public accountability, electoral integrity, and regional collaboration, making significant contributions to Nigeria’s anti-corruption landscape and the broader Transparency International movement.
Presenting the award, Transparency International Chair, François Valérian, praised Rafsanjani’s unwavering dedication to combating corruption and his effective leadership of Transparency International Nigeria.
According to Valérian, TI Nigeria has become a more influential and visible voice within the global movement under Rafsanjani’s stewardship, consistently contributing to international conferences, policy dialogues, and collaborative anti-corruption initiatives.
He said Rafsanjani had enhanced the chapter’s reputation through impactful advocacy, resilience, and principled leadership, describing his efforts to advance transparency and accountability in Nigeria and across Africa as deserving of international recognition.
Responding to the honour, Rafsanjani dedicated the award to the CISLAC team, development partners, and anti-corruption advocates who have supported the organisation’s mission over the years.
He described the recognition as a reflection of their collective commitment to promoting integrity, democratic governance, and institutional reforms, while reaffirming his resolve to continue advancing accountability and transparency in Nigeria, Africa, and the global community.
The award further highlights CISLAC’s growing influence within the Transparency International movement and reinforces its commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting good governance, and advancing accountability.
