Patrick-Agha Mba, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development in Anambra, has banned cash payments for rent on stadium and sports facilities in the state.
Mba issued this directive after leading a staff tour of sports facilities in the state on Wednesday.
He explained that the tour aimed to assess the condition of sports facilities in Anambra with a view to upgrading them to meet standards for implementing the government’s grassroots sports policy.

“From now on, all legal tenants at our stadiums will no longer pay rent in cash; they should now pay directly into the state government account through the Anambra Revenue Service.
This new payment system aligns with the governor’s directive and is part of our effort to streamline collections and boost the state’s internally generated revenue,” he said.
Mba also directed owners of private properties within the stadiums who lack approval documents to remove them immediately.
He emphasized that sports development would focus on grassroots efforts under the supervision of local government councils, with necessary investments made to provide adequate facilities in support of the policy.
Facilities visited included Otuocha Stadium, Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Godwin Achebe Stadium in Idemili, Ekwulobia Stadium, and Awka Stadium.
