Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in the state’s governorship election.
Davido took to X on Sunday shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner, posting a brief message: “We did it, Uncle.”
The singer’s post was accompanied by a video showing him and members of his team reacting to the announcement of the election result.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured victory in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, won in 11 LGAs.
The result gives Adeleke another four-year term as governor, having first won the Osun governorship election in 2022.
Davido had openly supported his uncle throughout the election campaign. He was involved in youth mobilisation efforts and used his large social media following to rally support for Adeleke ahead of the August 15 poll.
The musician’s involvement added a strong celebrity dimension to the campaign, with Davido attending political activities and publicly urging young voters in the state to participate in the electoral process.
Adeleke’s re-election has also triggered celebrations among his supporters in parts of Osun, including Osogbo, the state capital, and Ede, his hometown.
Davido’s reaction came shortly after the final declaration at the state collation centre in Osogbo, marking another political victory for the Adeleke family in Osun State.
