Dr. Lami Onayi Ahmed, President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), has called on female golfers to embrace unity, mentorship, and sportsmanship.
Ahmed made this appeal in her goodwill message celebrating the 2026 Women’s Golf Day on Tuesday at the I.E Ibas Golf Club in Karshi, Abuja.
She described the annual event as a platform to promote inclusion, empowerment, and leadership among women through golf.
“Women’s Golf Day is more than a celebration of the game; it reminds us why we came together as an association,” she stated.
She affirmed LGAN’s commitment to creating opportunities for women to connect, grow, and lead through golf.
The 2026 theme, “Engage, Empower, Support,” reflects the association’s core values and aspirations.
“I encourage members to see golf beyond competition and use it as a platform for personal growth and mutual support,” Ahmed urged.
She emphasized the importance of demonstrating compassion, understanding, and respect both on and off the course.
“When we show grace in victory and dignity in defeat, we inspire more women and girls to embrace the game,” she added.
Ahmed called on members to uphold the image and integrity of LGAN through positive conduct and fellowship.
“LGAN should remain a place of friendship, respect, and excellence. Every member plays a role in sustaining that culture,” she said.
She encouraged members to attract new players and support younger generations interested in golf.
“Let us continue engaging new players, empowering those behind us, and supporting each other every step of the way,” Ahmed urged.
The LGAN president expressed gratitude to members for their dedication to the association and its programs.
She appreciated the support of the executive committee and commended Competition Secretary Diana Osmond for coordinating Women’s Golf Day activities.
She also acknowledged the efforts of zonal vice presidents in providing leadership across the federation.
“I appreciate every member of the executive committee whose commitment strengthens our association,” she said.
Ahmed extended thanks to the Lady Captain of I.E Ibas Golf Club and the host club’s management, as well as Lady Captains from TYB, GEJ, and Parkland Golf Clubs for their collaboration.
Their collective support contributed significantly to the event’s success.
Ahmed announced that I.E Ibas Golf Club will host the 2027 LGAN Open Championship, expressing optimism for a successful event.
“We look forward to a successful 2027 LGAN Open,” she said.
She urged members to stay united and committed to advancing the association’s goals.
“Together, we can elevate women’s golf and keep the LGAN flag flying high across Nigeria,” Ahmed concluded.
