The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called for improved welfare for journalists in the country. The Chairman, University of Jos chapter of ASUU, Dr Lazarus Maigoro, made the call on Thursday in Jos, during an inaugural lecture organised by the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau council. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Silva, says the Nigerian National Petroleum Coorporation (NNPC) will soon resume oil exploration and drilling in the Lake Chad Basin. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Thursday wrote to the Ekiti state government to apologise over for the delay in the release of the 2020 results of its candidates. In the letter, the Council also clarified that the two-day delay in the release of the results on Thursday was not because the state government was indebted to it as was being insinuated in some quarters. The Police Command in Yobe on Thursday said it had arrested three suspects for allegedly raping two 13-year-old girls in Damaturu and Potiskum local government areas of the state. The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, dismissed an application by EFCC to cross-examine former Group Managing Director (GMD), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu. Justice Ahmed Mohammed, in a ruling, sustained the objection raised by Ahmed Raji, counsel to Mr Yakubu. An accident, which involved a Mercedes Benz truck and a motorcycle near the Ota toll gate in Ogun, on Wednesday, has claimed a life. The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Wednesday said it would require N2 billion in the 2021 budget to partition and furnish its headquarters in Abuja. Mr James Momoh, the Chairman of the Commission, said this when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Power to defend the commission’s 2021 budget proposal. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded 155 new cases of the Corona virus (COVID-19),  as the total number of confirmed cases soared to  63,328. The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, who spoke on Wednesday in Abuja while giving an update on  COVID-19 infections in Nigeria, said four deaths had been recorded in the past 24 hours.
