Tayo Williams, a media practitioner and public affairs analyst, has praised Dr Mike Adenuga, chairman of Globacom Ltd., for his contributions to healthcare, security, education and community development.
Williams disclosed this in a statement dated Oct. 29 and made available to reporters on Friday in Lagos.
He said Adenuga demonstrated his commitment to public safety earlier in 2026 by donating N1 billion to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund to strengthen the state’s security infrastructure.
Williams noted that Adenuga also supported Nigeria’s COVID-19 response in 2020 with a N1 billion donation to the Federal Government’s efforts, particularly the Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19, coordinated by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
“He subsequently donated N500 million to the Lagos State Government to support its pandemic response, while expressing readiness to assist institutions with essential supplies, including personal protective equipment.
“Beyond emergency interventions, Adenuga channels his philanthropic activities through the Mike Adenuga Foundation, established to promote social and economic development in Nigeria and other African countries.
“The foundation focuses on entrepreneurship, education, healthcare and rural development, while supporting vulnerable groups, internally displaced persons, disaster relief efforts and responses to public health emergencies.”
Williams said Globacom had also supported Nigerian artistes through brand ambassadorships, sponsorships and other commercial partnerships since commencing operations in 2003.
“The initiative has provided entertainers with financial opportunities, increased their visibility and strengthened the commercial value of their creative works.”
In telecommunications, Globacom has helped expand access to mobile services in Nigeria. Its introduction of per-second billing challenged prevailing industry practices and helped make mobile communication more accessible.
The company has also introduced various telecommunications products and services, while investing in fibre-optic infrastructure and international connectivity to support communications and digital services.
“Before establishing Globacom, Adenuga built interests in banking through Devcom Bank and Equitorial Trust Bank, which contributed to the development of Nigeria’s commercial and retail sectors,” Williams said.
Adenuga’s business interests also span oil and gas, real estate and construction. They include Conoil, an indigenous petroleum company involved in oil exploration, production and fuel marketing, as well as investments in Julius Berger.
Adenuga’s business achievements and philanthropic contributions have earned him national and international recognition, including Nigeria’s Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
Williams also cited Ghana’s Companion of the Star of Ghana and France’s Commander of the Legion of Honour, saying the honours reflected Adenuga’s contributions to business and society.
