Russia’s five-time world champion weightlifter and Olympic medallist Tatiana Kashirina has been temporarily suspended for an anti-doping rule violation, Russian news agency TASS reported on Sunday. Kashirina, who won silver at the 2012 Olympics and five gold medals at the world championships between 2010 and 2018, was one of the favourites for a gold medal at next year’s Tokyo Games. The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC), has reported 501 new infections of the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak in the country. The NCDC made this known via its verified website on Sunday. Since the beginning of the outbreak in February, more than 874,617 samples have been tested by NCDC, out of which 78,434 were positive. The agency said that the country sadly recorded three additional deaths in the last 24 hours, raising the overall total in the nation since the start of the  pandemic to 1,221. The National Varieties Release Committee (NVRC) has released 18 high yielding crop varieties to boost Nigerian agricultural productivity in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s 9-point agenda. The release of the new crop varieties was announced by NVRC chairman, Chief Oladosu Awoyemi during its 29th meeting at the National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB), Ibadan. The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the compulsory retirement of the Grand Kadi of Yobe, Shu’aibu Talba and Justice Abdulkareem Abdulrasaq, a judge of the Osun High Court for alleged age falsification. This is contained in a statement by Mr Soji Oye, the NJC Director of Information on Sunday in Abuja.
