The Coalition of Shiroro Associations (COSA) has appealed to the Niger State Government and relevant emergency management authorities to urgently assist victims of a devastating rainstorm that hit Kuta, headquarters of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
The coalition, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Abdulrahman Babafada, said the rainstorm occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, leaving widespread destruction in the community.
According to the group, preliminary information available to it indicated that about 68 houses and 18 shops were affected by the disaster.
The rainstorm also reportedly damaged 38 electricity poles, seven mosques, five churches and three schools.
COSA specifically called on the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) to urgently assess the extent of the damage and provide relief to the affected residents.
The association also appealed to the Niger State Government, relevant government agencies and private-sector organisations to intervene promptly and support the victims.
It warned that failure to provide immediate assistance could worsen the situation and trigger a humanitarian crisis among residents affected by the disaster.
COSA urged the authorities and other stakeholders to respond swiftly to the needs of the victims and help restore normalcy in the affected community.
