Nigeria launches unified govt service portal

The Federal Government on Tuesday soft-launched the Government Service Portal (GSP), a unified digital platform that provides Nigerians with seamless access to public services through a single online gateway.

Developed by Galaxy Backbone, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and KOICA, the portal aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

The platform is designed to simplify interactions with government institutions by offering faster, easier, and more secure access to essential public services.

Speaking in Abuja, Permanent Secretary Mr. Nadungu Gagare, represented by Director of E-Government Mr. Johnson Bareyi, described the initiative as a milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation.

Gagare stated that the portal is one of the flagship projects under Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0, developed through collaboration between government agencies and development partners.

He explained that citizens will be able to access multiple government services through a single secure sign-in, eliminating the need for repeated registrations and submissions across various platforms.

“Our mandate is not merely to deploy technology but to use it to improve governance and public service delivery. The Government Service Portal offers Nigerians a single digital gateway to access government services more simply, quickly, and seamlessly,” Gagare said.

He added that the platform aligns with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, and Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure agenda.

The portal will integrate with the Nigerian Digital Exchange, enabling secure information sharing among authorized institutions and reducing duplication across government agencies.

Gagare highlighted that the initiative would reduce service delays, improve transparency, strengthen accountability, and support the Federal Government’s efforts to make it easier to do business nationwide.

He urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to integrate their digital services into the platform to ensure wider accessibility and greater public value.

Galaxy Backbone’s Managing Director, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the portal as a significant step towards building a connected, efficient, and citizen-centered digital government.

Adeyanju emphasized that the GSP would serve as a unified digital gateway where citizens and businesses can easily find and access government services from one location.

“For too long, citizens have had to navigate numerous websites, offices, and service channels to interact with government. The Government Service Portal aims to change that by simplifying access, improving visibility, promoting consistency, and creating a seamless experience,” he said.

He also described the platform as a vital component of Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure, complementing existing digital identity, payment, and secure data exchange systems.

Adeyanju mentioned that the soft launch would onboard pioneer agencies, gather user feedback, and enable improvements before nationwide deployment.

He urged MDAs to integrate their services, emphasizing that the portal’s long-term success depends on sustained collaboration across government institutions.

“The true measure of this portal will be how easily citizens access government services and the trust built between government and the people,” he stated.

Mr. Olumbe Akinkugbe, Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services, said extensive User Acceptance Testing covered all six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.

Akinkugbe reported that 184 participants took part in the testing, with over 80 percent describing the portal as user-friendly, accessible, and easy to navigate.

He noted that 88 percent successfully located government services, and 71 percent rated the platform’s performance as fast or very fast.

According to him, 91 percent expressed willingness to use the portal, and 99 percent said they would recommend it to others.

Akinkugbe highlighted that feedback from the pilot phase pointed to areas for improvement, including user registration, image capture, and OTP delivery for authentication.

He said Galaxy Backbone would strengthen system architecture, enhance security, onboard additional MDAs, and introduce email and WhatsApp verification channels during the pilot.

He added that the portal would improve service delivery, streamline regulatory processes, and position Nigeria as a technology-driven destination for investors, innovators, and visitors.

Mr. Baik Ki-hyun, KOICA’s Senior Deputy Country Director, representing the Country Director, described the portal as a landmark achievement in bilateral cooperation.

Ki-hyun said the platform was the flagship outcome of the four-year “Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria” project between Nigeria and South Korea.

He commended Galaxy Backbone for leading implementation and expressed confidence in the agency’s ability to sustain the platform beyond the project’s end.

Ki-hyun also acknowledged the Nigerian and Korean experts, software developers, and government officials who contributed to the successful delivery of the digital governance initiative.

He emphasized that continuous innovation, improvement, and collaboration are essential for strengthening digital governance.

It was reported that the Government Service Portal will gradually expand, providing citizens and businesses access to an increasing range of government services as more MDAs join the platform.
