The House of Representatives has set up a 40-member joint committee to screen Service Chiefs newly appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari. The announcement was made at a plenary session on Wednesday by the Speaker of the House, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila. A dietician, Motunrayo Oduneye, says that the consumption of soft drinks or sugary beverages is fueling the malnutrition crisis in the country. Oduneye, an Assistant Chief Dietitian, University College Hospital, Ibadan, made the assertion on Wednesday in Ibadan. Oduneye said that soft drinks are high in calories and sugar with zero nutrients. The federal government of Nigeria has distributed free agricultural inputs to smallholder farmers in Maiduguri, Borno, to boost agricultural production in the state.
