The National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), says its research and development activities have redefined response of African traditional medicines to the COVID-19 pandemic. NIPRD Director-General, Dr Obi Adigwe, made this known in a statement on Sunday, ahead of the forthcoming African Traditional Medicine Day commemoration, on August 31. The International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and the National Headquarters of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), have commenced training of 20 selected volunteers from Niger on Coronavirus (COVID-19) response. Mr Zakari Bolaji, Health Coordinator, national headquarters, NRCS, Abuja disclosed this while inaugurating the two -day training in Minna. “This training will expose our volunteers to COVID -19 Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) and Cash Voucher Assistance (CVA),” he said. A newly appointed Assistant Inspector General, AIG, of Police, Rabiu Yusuf has died. The late AIG Yusuf who was buried in Abuja on Saturday, was recently appointed AIG in charge of Zone 14, which comprises Katsina and Kaduna states. At the time of his appointment, late Yusuf was reported to be recuperating from an illness and not resumed office when he suddenly died. The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Muhammad Adamu has described the late Yusuf as a dedicated and committed officer whose demise will be missed by the force.

Two trucks on Saturday, crushed 6 people to death in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North East local government area of Ondo. Reports alluded the accident to failure of brakes while descending the hilly town of Okorun area of the town, while heading to Akure, Ondo State capital. The corpse of the six have been evacuated to a mortuary and those that sustained bodily injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are receiving treatment.
