The House of Representatives on Wednesday promised to support the Nigerian Army to protect the territorial integrity of the country.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Army, Abdullahi Mamudu disclosed this when he led members of the Committee on a maiden familiarization visit to the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement, said after the lawmakers were briefed on the operational and administrative activities of the Nigerian Army, they admitted that the service is confronted with daunting challenges.

The statement partly read, “Nigeria’s House of Representatives has pledged to support the Nigerian Army in its effort to achieve its constitutional mandate to protect Nigeria’s vital national interest of defending her territorial integrity and guaranteeing security in the country.

Abdullahi appreciated the effort of the Nigerian Army towards checkmating fledgling security challenges in the country.

The lawmakers, who were briefed on the operational and administrative activities of the Nigerian Army, admitted that the Service is confronted with daunting challenges and pledged to provide requisite support to enhance its capabilities.”

Speaking during the visit, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, expressed the readiness of the Nigerian Army to partner with the law-making organ of the country in the discharge of its constitutional roles and the current operational efforts to stamp out insecurity in the country.

The COAS appreciated the committee for its positive disposition in supporting the NA, which he stressed, has propelled the NA in the conduct of its operations, training, and other activities.

Gen Lagbaja noted that the NA is satisfied with the feedback from the committee, maintaining that it has facilitated the redefining of ongoing operations of the Army

The COAS, while pointing out that the nation is currently facing myriads of security challenges, assured of the Nigerian Army’s determination to continue to expand its frontier of peace and stability across the country, by boldly confronting emerging security challenges in the geopolitical zones.
