The European Union Election Observation Mission, says its oath to be non partisan especially in the forthcoming Nigeria’s general elections, can never be violated.
Leader of the team, Robert Hall, stated this during a courtesy visit to the spiritual leader of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, Olumba Olumba Obu, in Calabar.
“Nothing can make us to violate our mandate or the oath taken not to be participants in the election.
“We are election observers on assignment to Cross River and Akwaibom states, hence it is our role to educate the electorate on the need to participate by casting their votes in a free, fair and credible manner.”
Hall maintained that, following reports that the BCS is an influential community with a large congregation in Nigeria, his team decided to stop over for the spiritual leader’s blessings and to reaffirm their neutrality stand.
Responding, Obu informed his guests that he had admonished his congregation to exercise their franchise freely as the spirit leads.
Admitting that he has no preferred presidential candidate, the BCS leader sued for a smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections, even as he warned against violence, maiming and all forms of rigging.
Obu explained that his congregation which is anchored on love, forgiveness, peace and unity, is spread across several countries of the world except Russia.
Hall who was accompanied during the visit by Diana Ferrari, were conducted round the BCS complex on a guided facility tour by a high priest of the fold, Justice Osai Ahiakwo.
