Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has secured 150 trucks of fertilizer for distribution to farmers across the state’s 44 local government areas to boost agricultural productivity and enhance food security.
This was contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday.
Yusuf said the fertilizer would be sold to farmers at subsidised rates alongside other agricultural inputs.
Distribution will be handled through the offices of district heads in all local government areas to ensure transparency and prevent politicisation.
The governor warned local government chairmen against diverting the process to council secretariats, stressing that the programme is meant for genuine farmers.
Yusuf also disclosed plans to provide 484 mini-ambulances, one for each ward in the state, to improve the transportation of pregnant women to healthcare facilities.
He said each ambulance would be managed by community leaders to enable prompt response to maternal health emergencies.
The governor said the initiative aims to reduce maternal mortality, improve access to healthcare and prevent avoidable complications during childbirth.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the living conditions of women and youths through targeted empowerment and social intervention programmes.
Yusuf urged them to register for opportunities at the state’s 24 specialised institutions.
