A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River state, Arthur Jarvis Archibong has charged the people of the Cross River South senatorial district to shun politics of ethnicity.
He made the call after distributing 1,000 bags of rice to polling units in Akpabuyo local government area for the Christmas celebration on Friday.
Archibong also enjoined those calling for the governorship position to rotate back to south, to be more focus in electing a leader with proven capacity and appreciable track records aimed at accelerating development in the zone and entire state.
“Election is less than three months away; I am calling on our party supporters; I am calling on the people of the Cross River South to be more concerned about the development of the zone, instead of engaging in politics of ethnicity,” Archibong said.
According to him, only the PDP can rescue the state and its people from the claws of bad governance that have bedeviled the people over the years.
“I am a strong believer in the fact that our people should look beyond ethnicity and look at somebody who will be able to assist us in taking us out from the depth of embarrassment that we find ourselves to where we should be as a state,” he further said.
Archibong maintained that the massive failure of the APC led government in the state can only be upturned by the PDP through its lofty programs that will transform the economy and help the citizenry forge ahead in harmony and rapid development.
“We have gone through almost eight years of utmost embarrassment by the APC government and an extension of this will not be accepted, especially for our children, hence the need to shun ethnic agitation and seek pragmatic leadership.”
Receiving the bags of the rice meant distributed for the people to celebrate the yuletide, PDP chapter Chairman of Akpabuyo, Etim Bassey applauded Archibong, admitting that the gesture would bring joy to the hearts and minds of the recipients and their families.
“God should strengthen the donor more in order for him to be the good leader that he has always been to the people of Akpabuyo and the party in particular,” the party chairman said.
The chapter chairman affirmed that with the constituents dire need for a pragmatic leader, they have resolved to throw their weight behind the candidature of Prof Sandy Onor of the PDP during the forthcoming elections.
