Former governor of Cross River state, and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Liyel Imoke has asked the people of the state for accepting to field present governor, Prof Ben Ayade during the 2015 governorship elections.
He spoke at a town hall meeting with stakeholders and supporters of the PDP on Sunday.
According to him, he made mistake because he thought Ayade was an intelligence man that could be a better leader.
Imoke therefore begged the people to forgive him, adding that to err is human.
“When we got the young man he looked like he had energy; like he was intelligent, and one who had evolved and could do better than us.
“As human beings, we make mistakes and to be a man you must have made mistakes.
“When you admit your mistakes you must ask for forgiveness; I am asking you to forgive me,” he said.
He debunked allegations that he received N2 billion as compensation from Ayade in order to succeed him.
