#NigeriaDecides2023 – ASHENEWS reports that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has won the February 25 election in Sokoto State.

The State Collation Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Kabiru Bala of ABU, Zaria who read out the summary of the results from the local government areas said the PDP polled a total of 288,679 votes, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 285,444 votes.

Reacting to the results, the Director General of the PDP Campaign in the state, Yusuf Suleiman, said the results did not reflect the wishes of the people.

“The State Collation Officer. I made my views very clear, that this results does not, in any way, represent the wishes of the people of Sokoto State. It is a great misrepresentation. In an election where 471 polling units were cancelled with total registered voters of 301,000, you know that something is absolutely wrong.

“I believe that if we continue to accept these kind of election, we are only rewarding those who are perpetrating violence. They must be apprehended and brought to book. If you allow them to get away with this, I can assure you that they will double their efforts in the next election. Government must be serious.

“The president has said that he wants to bequeath a legacy of conducting free, and fair elections in Nigeria. But obviously, some people are around him and his government do not share his views. They came to Sokoto and destroy our election.

“I want INEC to conduct elections in these 471 units and provide adequate security to ensure that nobody penetrates those polling units. Let people’s votes count. This is the only option for Nigeria,” he said.
