ASHENEWS reports that the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has promised to fix the Ajaokuta Steel Company in Kogi state if elected in the 2023 elections.
This online platform also reports that Atiku pledged to help the state government to offset the unpaid salaries of civil servants if elected.
The presidential candidate said he would make available $10 billion for job creation for young people.
Atiku made the promise when the party’s presidential campaign team met with party supporters in Lokoja, Kogi state capital.
“If you elect a PDP government, the nightmare of Ajaokuta will be a thing of the past. I assure you; this is a promise I made on behalf of the PDP.
“I also want to promise you that the issue of your Inland port, is an issue of entire northern Nigeria. Through the development of the port in Kogi, we will also have access to maritime transportation in the country. We will make sure we Implement that project.” he said.
Delta state governor, and vice presidential candidate of the party, Ifeanyi Okowa said that the success of the PDP in the 2023 elections is the solution to rid Nigeria of its many troubles.
Okowa, who said that Nigerians have suffered great economic hardship under the present APC administration, described Atiku as the best man for the job.
“When you have a nation that is as troubled as Nigeria is today, you can only represent the best if you want the situation to change.
“We have suffered in the last eight years. No one is happy that people are so poor today, that many of our youth have no place to work or that they go to bed hungry.
“Nigeria is so divided today and that is not the Nigeria of our dreams. We must change this if we want a greater and better country. We must be ready for change, but not the change of 2015,” he said.
The chairman of the PDP’s Presidential Campaign Council and Akwa-Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel expressed confidence that the PDP would secure a massive win in Kogi state.
Emmanuel said that the state was blessed with abundant natural resources but lacked the leadership needed to harness the benefits that came with such resources.
“Kogi state is one of the richest states in terms of solid minerals. The only problem is that we need a man like Atiku who will give you the policies that will encourage people from all over the world to explore and extract these resources to bring wealth to the state,” he said.
The climax of the occasion was the welcoming of 146,318 defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP.
Those who defected included a former Deputy Governor of Kogi state, Simon Achuba; Ex-Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Alfa Imam as well as the former Chairman of Okene local government area, Yahaya Karaku.
