Renowned African industrialist and philanthropist, Aliko Dangote, has been named among TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2026, reaffirming his status as one of the most impactful business leaders of his generation.
Dangote joins a distinguished group of global figures across politics, business, and culture. These include U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Catholic Church. Also featured are leading figures in technology, including Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan.
The annual TIME100 list, published on April 15, 2026, recognises individuals whose leadership, ideas, and actions are shaping the future across business, politics, culture, and society.
This marks Dangote’s second appearance on the prestigious list, following his first inclusion in 2014, when he was recognised for his impact on business and philanthropy. His return more than a decade later underscores the scale and consistency of his global influence.
Dangote is the only Nigerian on the 2026 list and is featured in the Titans category, alongside notable figures such as Reid Wiseman, commander of the Artemis II moon mission, as well as Pichai and Mohan.
Also listed in the Titans category are Michael Dell and Susan Dell, co-founders of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, and Ralph Lauren, founder of the Ralph Lauren Corporation.
In the Pioneers category, individuals recognised for breakthroughs in science and social advocacy include Kiran Musunuru and Rebecca Ahrens-Nicklas for advances in genetic therapy, as well as Aaron Williams for progress in heart transplant readiness.
The list also highlights influential figures in global entertainment and culture, including Ranbir Kapoor, Dakota Johnson, and Kate Hudson.
As Founder and President of the Dangote Group—Africa’s largest indigenous industrial conglomerate—Dangote has played a central role in advancing industrialisation across the continent. Under his leadership, the Group has made significant investments in cement manufacturing, sugar and food processing, agriculture, infrastructure, and, more recently, energy, reducing reliance on imports while creating millions of jobs.
In its citation, TIME Magazine highlighted Dangote’s vision of building globally competitive African industries using local resources, noting his recent large-scale investments in energy and manufacturing infrastructure as key to Africa’s economic transformation.
Beyond business, Dangote is widely recognised for his philanthropic work through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, one of Africa’s largest private philanthropic organisations. The foundation supports initiatives in healthcare, nutrition, education, disaster relief, and economic empowerment across the continent.
The 2026 TIME100 recognition reflects growing global acknowledgement of African leadership, innovation, and enterprise, with Dangote standing out as a symbol of the continent’s rising influence in shaping global economic and development narratives.
The honour further consolidates his legacy as a visionary industrialist and philanthropist, driving sustainable development and inclusive growth across Africa and beyond.
Under his leadership, the Dangote Group recently unveiled its Vision 2030 strategy, aimed at transforming the company from a $30 billion regional conglomerate into a $100 billion global powerhouse by 2030.
The strategy focuses on achieving industrial self-sufficiency for Africa and transitioning from “regional dominance to global relevance.” Phase one (2025–2028) centres on scaling existing operations—cement, fertiliser, and energy—while optimising assets for international competitiveness.
Phase two (2028–2030) will see the expansion into new sectors and global markets, including steel manufacturing, power, and deep-sea ports, to address critical industrial bottlenecks across Africa.
Overall, the 2026 TIME100 list underscores the increasing global visibility of African leadership, with Dangote’s continued inclusion highlighting his enduring influence on the world stage.
