The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted rain and sunshine across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, predicts sunny skies over the northern region on Monday, with some patches of clouds expected across the entire area.
The agency anticipates isolated thunderstorms with light to moderate rains over parts of Taraba State during the afternoon and evening.
NiMet forecasts a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine over North Central Nigeria throughout the period.
“For the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is expected, with chances of thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are possible over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom,” the outlook stated.
On Tuesday, NiMet predicts sunny skies with some clouds over the entire northern region, with isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rains over parts of Taraba later in the day.
The central region is expected to experience a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine throughout the day.
The southern region will also see a cloudy atmosphere with periods of sunshine and thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, and Delta later in the day.
On Wednesday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with some clouds over the entire northern region. The North Central is expected to remain cloudy with intervals of sunshine.
The southern region will experience a cloudy atmosphere with some sunshine and thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers later in the day.
The agency warned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms, advising the public to take precautions and secure loose objects to prevent accidents. People should avoid driving in heavy rain, disconnect electrical appliances, and stay away from tall trees to avoid falling branches or broken trees.
Airline operators are encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.
Temperatures are expected to remain high, causing thermal discomfort. The public is advised to wear breathable clothing, stay in well-ventilated environments, and remain hydrated.
