Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) on Thursday inducted 164 Veterinary Laboratory Technologists (VLT) and Animal Health Technologists (AHT) in Jos.
The inductees are graduates of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Vom, near Jos.
The Registrar of the council, Dr Oladotun Fadipe, while administering the oath, advised the inductees to be committed to the oath they had taken.
Fadipe urged them to desist from cutting corners and to be professional at all times.
The President of the council, Prof. Mathew Adamu, called on the inductees to be employers of labour, noting that they had acquired sufficient expertise to improve the Nigerian economy through livestock production.
Adamu said the Nigerian economy would be better if the livestock sub-sector was given the desired attention.
“As the council looks forward to your contribution to the growth of the livestock sub-sector, we also expect you not to be job seekers, but job creators.
“You should go out there and be able to create jobs, so that this country, especially the animal health care and livestock sector, will be better,” he said.
The president, who advised the inductees to abide by the ethics of the profession, warned that anyone found wanting would not be spared.
“I want to urge you all to practise this profession within the ethics of veterinary practice.
“Please, let us not indulge in unethical practices, because the council will have no option but to use its sledgehammer to ensure that you are punished.
“Let us ensure that we practise veterinary medicine within the ambit of the ethics of the profession,” he said.
The Provost of the college, Dr Christine Utoh-Ojemudia, said that the graduands had met all academic requirements to be awarded Higher National Diplomas in their fields.
Represented by her deputy, Dr Irimiya Jabir, Utoh-Ojemudia congratulated the inductees and urged them to be good ambassadors of the institution.
The provost particularly advised the inductees not to take the oath they took for granted in all their endeavours.
