Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, departed Abuja on Wednesday for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to participate in the opening of the 2024 International Exhibition of Extractive and Energy Resources (SIREXE).
The announcement was made in a statement by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President.
According to Nkwocha, the conference commenced on November 27 and is scheduled to run until December 2 at the Abidjan Exhibition Centre. Shettima is attending the event at the invitation of Côte d’Ivoire’s Vice President, Tiémoko Koné.
Nkwocha revealed that Vice President Shettima would use the opportunity to highlight Nigeria’s extensive experience in hydrocarbon exploration and production, emphasizing its contributions to energy development and sustainability.
“The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja later today,” the statement added.
The SIREXE conference, hosted by the government of Côte d’Ivoire, is a prominent international platform focused on shaping policies and strategies for the sustainable development of the extractive and energy industries. It brings together global stakeholders, including policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and researchers, to discuss innovations, partnerships, and solutions that drive growth in these sectors.
Nigeria is a significant player in Africa’s oil and gas landscape, and Shettima’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to regional collaboration and the exchange of expertise to advance sustainable energy practices on the continent.
During the event, attendees are expected to explore critical themes, such as transitioning to renewable energy, innovations in extractive technologies, and strategies for reducing environmental impacts in resource development.
