Yobe State received the highest gross Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocation to its local government areas among the 12 lowest-ranked states in September 2026, receiving ₦11.14 billion, according to data attributed to FAAC and Agora Policy. Bayelsa recorded the lowest figure in the group at ₦7.59 billion.

Kwara followed Yobe closely with ₦11.08 billion, while Cross River received ₦11.04 billion. Taraba and Abia completed the top five of the bottom-12 group, with ₦10.83 billion and ₦10.45 billion respectively.

The figures show a ₦3.55 billion gap between Yobe, the highest recipient in the group, and Bayelsa, the lowest. Ekiti, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Gombe, Ebonyi and Bayelsa each received below ₦9 billion.

National context

The local-government allocations form part of the September 2026 FAAC distribution, in which local government councils nationally received ₦560.660 billion from a total distributable revenue of ₦2.428 trillion.[fmino.gov]

FAAC also allocated ₦236.049 billion to eligible oil-producing states as 13 per cent derivation revenue, while the Federal Government received ₦832.242 billion and state governments received ₦799.872 billion.[fmino.gov]

The bottom-12 ranking highlights differences in the volume of funds flowing to councils across states, although actual allocations typically reflect factors including the number of local government areas, population-based sharing formulas, landmass and internally generated revenue considerations.
