The Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) has released a Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Geidam Bulama, hitherto held captive since March 18, 2022.
Bulama was abducted when the terrorists invaded the Gubio Local Government, about 70kms from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital of the Northeast, Nigeria.
Makama, a counter insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad Region, told ASHENEWS that the terrorists had promised Bulama’s wife during the abduction that they would not kill him.
Sources told Makama that the insurgents took Dr. Bulama and other abducted victims to the fringes of the Lake Chad, and forced to treat wounded fighters and their families for several months.
Makama further gathered that efforts of the state government, and the security agencies to the release of Bulama had failed.
According to sources, Dr. Bulama was released in Gubio, before he was moved to Maiduguri where he was reunited with his family.
The sources did not disclose if ransom was paid before his release.
