The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has thanked President Bola Tinubu for quickly approving the rebuilding of the Mokwa Bridge in Niger State.

The minister spoke in Abakaliki on Saturday while visiting the Minister of Works, David Umahi.Idris said, “We are grateful to the President, and I feel very honored.”

He explained that when they talked to the President about the bridge, the President immediately agreed it was important and approved it without delay. Idris said this made them very happy.

He added that even though the Minister of Works is from Ebonyi State, he was one of the first to send a team to check what happened at Mokwa.

Just recently, the President officially approved the immediate reconstruction of the bridge, and this brought great joy to the people. Idris also said their state governor, Umar Bago, would be pleased by the news.

The Mokwa Bridge was destroyed by a severe flood that caused the deaths of over 200 people.

The bridge is a very important connection between the northern and southern parts of Nigeria.

The cost of rebuilding the Mokwa Bridge is expected to be N16.7 billion. Minister Umahi said the President gave approval for the project after receiving a request from the Minister of Information.

Umahi added that before President Tinubu traveled recently, he had approved the rebuilding of both the Mokwa Bridge and another damaged bridge in Wukari, Taraba State.

He said the President always tries to be fair and makes sure his decisions benefit all parts of the country.

Umahi also shared that the President approved work to begin on the Lokoja Bridge as well.

He further explained that a long-term project would soon begin on the road connecting Afikpo, Abia, and Imo States, and funds have already been released.

Minister Idris and his team visited Enugu and Ebonyi States to check on federal projects and listen to the people’s opinions and concerns.
