Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has become the first African artist to surpass 11 billion total streams on Spotify across all credited appearances, further cementing his status as one of the continent’s most commercially successful global music exports.
The milestone was announced on Tuesday by Charts Africa via X, highlighting Wizkid’s dominance across several Spotify milestones in African music history.
According to the platform, Wizkid remains the first African artist to reach one billion, two billion, 10 billion, and now 11 billion cumulative streams on Spotify.
The latest achievement comes just days after the release of State of Mind, his collaboration with DJ Tunez, which debuted on May 15, 2026. The track reportedly generated more than 685,000 global Spotify streams within its first full day on the platform, adding further momentum to Wizkid’s already expansive streaming catalogue.
The milestone further underscores the growing global commercial strength of Afrobeats, a genre that has increasingly positioned Nigerian artists among the leading figures in the international digital music economy.
Wizkid’s success on Spotify is also linked to several landmark moments for African music on streaming platforms. He featured on One Dance by Drake and Kyla, which became one of the first major global streaming successes involving an African artist.
Other African artists have continued to break streaming records in recent years. Rema became the first African lead artist to record a song with one billion Spotify streams through Calm Down, while Tems became the first African female artist associated with a Spotify record that surpassed one billion streams.
Similarly, Tyla became the first African solo artist to achieve more than one billion Spotify streams with Water, highlighting the growing international appeal of African pop music.
The latest record follows another notable streaming achievement involving Wizkid earlier this year. In January 2026, Wizkid and Asake made African music history with their collaboration Jogodo, which became the fastest African song to reach 10 million Spotify streams, achieving the feat in less than a week.
Data tracked by Charts Africa at the time showed that the song recorded one of the fastest streaming growth trajectories ever achieved by an African release on the platform.
The continued rise in streaming figures reflects the expanding influence of African music across major digital platforms, where Nigerian artists increasingly dominate global Afrobeats consumption metrics.
Spotify has previously acknowledged the growing international appeal of Nigerian music and its strong engagement among younger audiences. In 2022, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, identified Burna Boy, Asake, Davido, Drake and Wizkid as the five most-streamed artists among Nigeria’s Gen Z audience.
