Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of cocaine and various opioids concealed in the walls of cartons used to package clothes and other items destined for the United Kingdom and Australia.
The two seizures were made at a courier company in Lagos on Friday, May 15, 2026, during the examination of outbound shipments. A total of 170 grams of cocaine, sealed in cellophane parcels and hidden inside the walls of a carton of clothes heading to Australia, were recovered.
From another carton destined for the United Kingdom, operatives recovered various opioids comprising 200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol, and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection.
In Delta State, NDLEA operatives, supported by soldiers, raided two cannabis farms and destroyed a total of 65,000 kilograms of skunk.
On Sunday, May 10, they destroyed 27,500kg of skunk on 11 hectares of farmland at Ejeonu village in Ukwuani LGA and arrested a 52-year-old suspect, Ifeanyichukwu Peter, at Obiaruku.
A similar operation on Tuesday, May 12, at Orogun village in Ughelli North LGA led to the destruction of 37,500kg of skunk on 15 hectares of farmland and the arrest of 30-year-old Godwin Vincent Osadera.
In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives recovered 361kg of skunk and arrested 42-year-old Husaini Suleiman during a raid at Dan Magaji area in Zaria. Separately, on May 12, officers on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna highway arrested 35-year-old Abdullahi Hassan with 1,989 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition concealed in bags of garri (cassava granules). The suspect and exhibits have been transferred to another security agency for further investigation.
In the FCT, Abuja, NDLEA operatives on Monday, May 11, arrested 29-year-old businessman Ogadi Peter for producing drug-laced cakes and cookies. He was nabbed at his residence in Life Camp with 800 grams of skunk and 2.7kg of drug-laced cookies.
Other notable arrests and seizures during the week include:
- 181kg of skunk recovered from Aliyu Sani in Ogere area of Ogun State on May 13.
- 105,850 opioid pills (tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5) seized from 27-year-old Sufiyanu Mohammed Misa along Zaki-Biam road in Wukari LGA, Taraba State.
- Two suspects arrested in Saki, Oyo State, with 99 litres of skuchies.
- 1,388.4175kg of skunk destroyed on two farms in Ago Forest, Edo State.
- 30.5kg of skunk and a 25-litre jerry can of palm oil concealing 1.2kg of tramaking pills recovered in Kano State, with one suspect arrested.
The War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns also continued across various schools in Oyo, Niger, Lagos, Katsina, Ekiti, and Kano States.
