A mobile court in Benin has convicted 19 people for illegal parking, dropping passengers in unauthorised places, driving on one-way and other offences. The State Prosecuting Counsel, Mr Ayo Aigbokhiade, said all the convicts were apprehended within the Benin metropolis and brought for trial. Some of them pleaded not guilty to the traffic offence. Presiding Chief Magistrate, Prince Mutairu Oare, ordered the convicts to pay N25,000 fine each within two days. Kano state government says it has earmarked over N1.2 billion for construction of roundabouts and rehabilitation of 42 roads in Kano metropolis. This is contained in a statement by Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, on Sunday in Kano. He said the amount would be expended on the construction of roundabouts, rehabilitation and maintenance of roads which were in a state of disrepair as a result of the flood occasioned by torrential rains. The Sokoto state Ministry for Women and Children Affairs is to partner with the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in the area of skills acquisition. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed two persons dead and six others injured in three separate car crashes that occurred along Gombe by-pass towards Pantami community on Friday.
