The European Central Bank (ECB) lifted its benchmark interest rate by 75 basis points on Thursday in order to combat record inflation. The bank announced in Frankfurt that the key interest rate at which commercial banks could borrow money from the ECB would thus rise to two per cent. “The Governing Council took today’s decision and expects to raise interest rates further, to ensure the timely return of inflation to its two per cent medium-term inflation target,” the ECB said in a press release. “Inflation remains far too high and will stay above the target for an extended period,” it said.…

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, has said that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has set up a committee to compile all allegations of accidental air strikes on civilians. Cameroon Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie on Thursday said Cholera has spread to eight of Cameroon’s 10 regions including the Center region, killing 272 people since October 2021. Manaouda told a press briefing in the capital city of Yaounde that as of October 20, 12,952 people were known to have been infected. The Federal High Court on Wednesday restrained the Kogi state government from shutting down Dangote Cement PLC in the Obajana area of the state.
