Scientists at the University of Birmingham said on Tuesday that they had developed a new COVID-19 test capable of delivering results in less than five minutes. The new test simplifies the testing method to a single step and uses an alternative amplification method called Exponential Amplification Reaction (EXPAR), said the university. The new test can reduce testing time from 30 minutes to less than five and deliver accurate results, local media reported. Six persons were confirmed dead while nine others had various degrees of injuries on Tuesday in a ghastly accident involving an articulated vehicle and a Toyota bus around Car Park C on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Nigeria on Monday recorded seven deaths and highest daily surge of 1,204 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday, taking the total number of infections to 91,351. Nigeria recorded 1,145 cases on December 18, 2020. The centre also announced seven deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll to 1,318. It stated that three of the deaths occurred in Lagos, two in Sokoto, while Kebbi and Abia recorded one fatality each.
