Seven national officers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday, resigned from their positions in the party. The officials made their decisions known in separate letters addressed to the party’s National Secretary, alleged that they were being sidelined and unfairly treated by the National Chairman, Mr Uche Secondus. The officials include the National Deputy Publicity Secretary, Diran Odeyemi; Deputy National Organising Secretary, Hassan Yakubu; and the Deputy National Woman Leader, Hadizat Umoru. This is coming after a former spokesperson of the party’s presidential Campaign, Kasim Afegbua, accused the chairman and the leadership of series of offences, including corruption.

The management of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, has mourned the death of its 200-level student, Adeyinka Daniel. A student of Software Engineering, Daniel died in an auto crash along Oyememun Road Akure in the early hours of Monday. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, says Nigeria has confirmed 32 cases of Delta variant of COVID-19 in four states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, spoke about this during the resumed briefing of the Presidential Steering Committee on Monday in Abuja. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho on Tuesday in Abuja, issued an order unfreezing the bank account of the Chairman of Daar Communications Plc, Raymond Dokpesi. Justice Tsoho gave the order while delivering a ruling on Dokpesi’s application argued by Mr Kanu Agabi, SAN. The judge ordered that the account domiciled at First Bank be immediately ‘unfrozen’ since the criminal charges which precipitated the restriction on the account had been dismissed and Dokpesi discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal. The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has announced the provision of $550m in funding by the World Bank (WB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) to support the implementation of its off-grid solution projects.
