The Sokoto State Government says by the end of the fiscal year, it will achieve over 80 per cent performance in the implementation of its 2025 budget following a strategic reallocation of funds.

At its Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday, the government also approved a technical amendment that moved about ₦38.81 billion from dormant or under-utilised allocations to areas of higher priority where revenues have been more active.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Dr. Abubakar Zayanna, explained that the adjustment was necessary to make the budget more realistic and intentional. He said the move was in line with public financial management standards and designed to ensure that government resources are directed towards projects that can be fully executed before the end of the year.

“Rather than allow funds to remain idle in stalled projects, we have redirected them to priority sectors that can deliver results. This is how we will sustain the 70 to 80 per cent budget performance already recorded,” Zayanna said.

The Commissioner stressed that the amendment does not change the overall budget size, which remains at ₦526.88 billion. Instead, it only reallocates spending to reflect current realities.

As part of the measures approved, the Council directed funds to the rehabilitation of key infrastructure damaged by recent flooding. Roads such as Ali-Akilu Road and Abdullahi Jodi/Podi Road will be reconstructed and drainage improved to address environmental challenges faced by affected communities.

The amended budget will now be forwarded to the Sokoto State House of Assembly for consideration and passage into law, which will provide the legal framework for fiscal operations in the remainder of the year.
