ASHENEWS reports that Amnesty International has called on the federal government to probe the alleged sexual exploitation of law students at the University of Calabar, in Port Harcourt state.
The organization, in a series of tweets posted on Monday night, decried the continued abuse of women’s rights in Nigeria.
“Amnesty International calls on the Nigerian authorities to impartially investigate serious allegations of sexual exploitation of female students by lecturers at the Faculty of Law University of Calabar.
“The authorities of the University of Calabar and other relevant agencies must act now and investigate all allegations against lecturers thoroughly, promptly, and impartially.
“Despite Nigeria’s international human rights obligation to enact, implement and monitor legislation addressing all forms of violence against women, women and girls continue to face discrimination daily. This is unacceptable and must end,” the tweets read.
Recall that some female law students at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) on Monday staged a peaceful protest to express their displeasure over the alleged sexual exploitation they allegedly face from Professor Cyril Ndifon, Dean of the Faculty of Law.
