The 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has conducted a tree-planting exercise in Katsina to promote environmental sustainability and improve its working environment.
The exercise took place on Monday at the headquarters of the 17 Brigade Complex, Natsinta Cantonment, Katsina.
Speaking at the event, the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Ishaya Ibrahim, said the exercise aimed to promote environmental conservation, increase greenery within the cantonment and encourage personnel to adopt sustainable environmental practices.
Ibrahim said tree planting offered several environmental benefits, including improved air quality, reduced heat and the provision of shade.
He explained that trees absorbed carbon dioxide and released oxygen, thereby contributing to a healthier environment.
The commander added that trees also helped reduce dust and air pollution while serving as windbreaks against strong winds.
According to Ibrahim, the initiative would help create a healthier, safer and more environmentally friendly working environment for personnel.
He added that the exercise underscored the Brigade’s commitment to environmental conservation, personnel welfare and sustainable environmental management.
