The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto State Command, has deployed 1,200 personnel for Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.
Mr. Bello Argungu, the state commandant of the NSCDC, gave the figure while addressing newsmen on the command’s preparations ahead of the elections in Sokoto, on Wednesday.
He said the personnel was fully set and trained to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) toward ensuring a hitch-free process.
“We identified a lot of hitches during the Feb. 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections in Sokoto State.
“So, this time around with the level of preparation and commitment by both the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and INEC, we are certain the process will be hitch-free Insha Allah.
“Moreover, on our part, the NSCDC had a lot of engagement with ICCES led by the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Gumel, to arrest any violator during the process,” the commandant said.
He said that hitches of the Feb. 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state were all identified, assuring the public that the security personnel would do their work diligently.
Argungu said that security personnel in the state made some arrests during the last polls and the suspects were under investigation.
“As soon as we are through with them, we will hand them over to INEC for prosecution,” he said.
The commandant called on the people of the state to remain law abiding and cooperate with security agencies before, during, and after the elections.
