The Bauchi state police command has confirmed Friday disruption of peace in Warji local government area of the state on allegation of blasphemy.

A statement by the spokespeson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohamed Wakil on Saturday, quoted the Commissioner, Umar Mamman Sanda as saying that some irate youths in the area set six houses and seven shops ablaze, following an alleged blasphemous message posted on social media by a 40-year old staff of the Medical Department of Warji local government, Rhoda Jatau.

Some persons were reportedly injured as a result of the crisis.

The statement added that while a team of Mobile Police Force and Rapid Response Squad (RRS), have brought the situation under control, Sanda has also ordered for thorough investigation into the crisis.

The Commissioner appealed to the general public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses without any fear of intimidation as normalcy has been restored in the affected area.

He also assured the public that the Police is on top of the situation and will continue to update them on the level of investigation.

The Command called on parents and guardians to maintain strict vigilance over the activities of their wards, particularly youths.

Sanda also urged religious and community leaders as well as elders, to always speak to youths to desist from anything that could tamper with the security of their areas.
