Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo has assured that his administration will sustain funding for road projects across the state.
Okpebholo gave the assurance on Monday in Uromi while addressing newsmen shortly after inspecting ongoing Arue-Uromi-Agbor road projects across Esan North East Local Government Area of the state.
The governor said the projects were progressing in spite of challenges posed by the rainy season, which had limited construction activities currently being undertaken.
“We are here to look at what they are doing. We have gone around several project sites since morning to see how far they are going.
“The work is progressing,” the governor said.
According to him, drainage works are currently receiving attention because the rainy season has restricted the scope of other construction activities.
“By the grace of God, we are looking at what we can achieve between now and Christmas, because of the rainy season, nothing much can actually be done.
“The only thing they can do now is the drainage, which they are working on, and we are seeing the progress they are making across the various sites.
“Our aim is to make sure that we do our best to fund them. As the money comes to us, we also use it to fund them.
“We will continue to ensure that progress is made on these roads,” Okpebholo said.
He emphasised that his administration remained committed to providing contractors with the resources required to sustain work on the projects.
Okpebholo expressed optimism that the sustained efforts would translate into improved road infrastructure for residents and motorists, particularly during the Christmas period.
Earlier, the Area Manager of Setraco Nigeria Ltd., Mr Michel Aoy, said the Irrua-Uromi bypass road would be nine metres wide on each side, with a concrete barrier separating both carriageways.
“In addition to street lighting all the way, it was a big challenge to work in the township to get the right of way for 18.6 metres, plus a drain of about 20 metres.
“Now we can see the drain executed, which is the hardest step of the project and which will normally take time with contractors,” he said.
