The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kwara Chapter, has urged commuters and motorists to keep emergency contacts handy and report suspicious movements to security agencies during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The branch Chairman, AbdulRahman Onikijipa, gave the advice in Ilorin on Saturday during an interview with reporters.
According to him, the festive period usually sees heavy movement of people and vehicles, making security consciousness essential.
Onikijipa noted that the rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity across the country require constant vigilance.
“Festive periods are always busy with increased movement of motorists and commuters. Everyone must remain vigilant,” he said.
“Both commuters and motorists must be safety-conscious, especially with the alarming rate of kidnapping and insecurity. Keep emergency contacts handy and report suspicious movements to security agencies immediately.”
He also advised motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, and other road users to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, and unnecessary night journeys.
Onikijipa further urged drivers to avoid isolated routes and refrain from sharing their travel details with strangers.
“As passengers, avoid boarding overloaded or reckless vehicles. Do not be too desperate to travel without observing necessary safety measures,” he added.
He urged the public to celebrate responsibly, obey traffic rules, and look out for one another.
